I get this question all the time..."I want to learn Salsa but not sure where to start? What's the process of learning how to dance?"
Compare learning how to dance like learning a language. What level of proficiency do you desire? Do you
want to learn a couple words, be able to just "get by" or become master of fluency? Ask yourself first what kind of dancer you want to become and what you're willing to do in order to get there. Now let's say you decided on becoming an average dancer to just "get by" on the dance floor, this still requires a basic level of knowing steps, lead/follow techniques, musical timing and style. To achieve all this, you'll need the perfect combination of private lessons, group classes and social dancing...in that order.
Private lessons are so important to get your tailored dance process rolling. Dance instructors can quickly mold you into a dancer by correcting bad habits and emphasize your natural strengths. Group classes are great for getting knowledge of step patterns. These are a great supplement to take in between private lessons or as a starting place. Social dancing is where you can see the fruits of your labor. Social situations at different venues with different partners and music, expose what part of your dancing needs improvement.
Still not sure where to start....take a Beginner Salsa Class for $10!
